Volunteer work

The Foundation can rely on the work of a growing number of volunteer aides, who have been with us since the beginnings. They make an indispensable part of the hospice team, as it is their presence that makes the complex care given to the suffering complete. For the patients, they are often the representatives of the outside world, fulfil the need for human relationships, lessen the suffering with their care. Volunteers can have the experience of caring and help, and as members of the hospice team, they have the opportunity to keep their skills up-to-date, as well as to seek professional advice.

Volunteers are wanted in the following fields :

  • patient care in hospitals and homes, emotional support
  • telephone counselling
  • fundraising, event organization, PR-related tasks

You can be a volunteer if

  • you’re at least 18 years old
  • you can accept the philosophy of hospice, and are ready to work, give help, under the guidance of a team of professionals
  • you agree to take part in special courses for hospice volunteers, and supervisions
  • you take no compensation for your work from patients or their families

You cannot be a volunteer if

  • you were bereaved in the past two years, or if you have not yet accepted the loss of a beloved
  • you have a serious physical or psychiatric illness
  • any of your close relatives are seriously ill

If you feel like doing voluntary hospice work, please contact us.
