Psychosocial support
Cancer means a great psychological burden for the patient and their family alike, especially in the last phase of the illness, with the menace of impending death. The psychiatric symptoms that often occur – anxiety, depression, sleep disorder – must be treated. Family members may also require help in preparing for, and coping with, the bereavement. Emotional and spiritual support for patients and their families forms the basis of hospice. For their psychosocial support, patients can have access to such well-established methods as group therapy, autogenic training, art therapy and self-help which draws upon the energy of a community of fellow sufferers. The Foundation has developed a multiphase programme, which covers both the recovery and rehabilitation of patients, and support for terminal patients and their grieving families.
What can we offer?
- Psychooncology: consultations and therapy
- Support for the bereaved: group and individual therapy, support groups
We aim to make the treatment of curable patients more efficient by involving them in psycho-oncology and self-help therapeutic groups – traditional modes of treatment in hospice, but less well-known in Hungary –, and we want to improve the life quality of terminal patients by helping them maintain their mental and physical agility.
