Hospice Home care

In hospice-type home care the nurse can spend a maximum of two hours with each patient, so the model relies on the participation of the patient’s family, which is to say we cannot look after people who live alone in their own homes.

Hospice-type home care always starts at the request of the patient or their family member, and the providers always seek cooperation with the hospital specialist and the family doctor.

In home care patients can receive services that would be typically rendered in a hospital (medicine dosage adjustment, inserting catheters, treating wounds and bedsores, giving infusions, physiotherapy). Treatment begins with a fine-tuned symptomatic therapy, to annihilate pain, nausea, faintness, inappetance and other symptoms. The treatment is personalized and flexible, and is meant to place the least possible stress on the patient. The volume of analgesics, for instance, is carefully adjusted, and the drugs are used preventively.

Psychological, social and spiritual support given to the patients and their families is part of hospice-type home care: beside the nurse, a hospice physician, a social worker, a physiotherapist , a volunteer aide (who when necessary looks after the patient for a couple of hours per week), a priest and a psychologist make visits as required.

The medical equipment necessary for home care is lent by the Foundation free of charge.
