Hospice Home Care for Children with Cancer

Recognizing the considerable power of family relationship, the Hungarian Hospice Foundation has been aiming at offering cancer patients comprehensive, high-level care following the termination of their curative treatment in the comfort of their home.

The sense of security provided by one’s family is crucial at any age. Nevertheless, it has a special importance for children with a disease like cancer. Through their strong attachment for their parents and siblings they gain special benefit from receiving up-to-date palliative treatment in their homes. The cooperation with the Oncology Department of the Paediatric Clinic of the Semmelweis University has made this service available for children.

Who May Benefit from Hospice Home Care?

This service is available to children with cancer who do not receive curative oncological care and prefer home care to hospital stay. Hospice care involves family members, too.

Who Carries out the Treatment?

Cooperating with the physician responsible for the curative treatment, a professional health care team provides children with adequate care, the control of pain and other symptoms as well as psychological support. This enables the family to stay together for the entire length of the illness.
