Hospice is not about life coming to an end but that you are still living it.

The Hungarian Hospice Foundation has been providing hospice care for incurable cancer patients, who are already out of active therapy, in Budapest for 30 years now. While we alleviate their pain and other symptoms and lessening their mental suffering, we focus above all on humane treatment and the protection of personal dignity. We also try to help relatives cope with the illness and the bereavement.

Hospice care is free of charge for everyone, since dignified death is the inalienable right of every person.

Home Care

Our Foundation provides cancer patients who are out of active therapy with professional care in their own homes. Patients can receive services that would be typically rendered in a hospital (medicine dosage adjustment, treating wounds and bedsores, physiotherapy etc.). Beside the doctor’s and the nurse’s help psychological, social and spiritual support are given to the patients and their families.

Inpatient Unit

Our 10-bed inpatient unit is the Budapest Hospice House, where our aim is to provide complete and personalized care for incurable cancer patients until the moment of death. Having our own building enables us to offer, in accordance with the classic hospice model, a friendly atmosphere for the patients and their families.

Psycho-Oncology Service

Our psychologists and psychiatrists offer therapeutic advice for patients to cope with mental and emotional difficulties that occur during the illness and for family members to come to terms with the loss. We provide access to consultations and therapy, individually, in groups or for the family. The programme is not restricted to the terminal phase, but is available for cancer patients and their families from the moment the illness is diagnosed.

Home Care for Children

A professional health care team provides seriously ill children with adequate care, the control of pain and other symptoms as well as psychological support. This enables the family to stay together for the entire length of the illness and the care involves all the family members as well.

Pain Clinic

The Pain Clinic of the Budapest Hospice Home offers advice, treatment and medical control or any cancer patient requiring palliative treatment, from the moment the illness is diagnosed. Pain is reduced continuously, progressively and preventively, which can minimize or completely annul pain.

Training, education

We are ready to hold trainings for nurses, physicians, physiotherapists, psychologists, social workers, teologists and representatives of other fields, providing opportunities to visit the Budapest Hospice House. We are also open for applications by students looking for field-work opportunities, and invite all those interested to our programmes as volunteers.

Educational videos

Our documentaries were made for educational purposes for family members looking after ill relatives at home. We would like to share our knowledge about how to take care of somone who has to stay at home or in bed after an illness or an operation. We are giving practical and useful tips and guidance in our films. Please, click on the title for the videos.
